Quick Fix

Each morning on my commute to work, I walk along a perfect panoramic view of the Alcobendas Sierra Norte mountains. Early in the day, as the sun light is in the exact right place, it is a spectacular site and I still find myself constantly amazed that I live here. Lately, with the winter temperatures gradually arriving to Madrid, I see more and more peaks covered with snow, as if someone sprinkled just a little more white powder over them each night.

Right before moving here, I was talked into buying a Macbook by my best friends, with the exception of one who still claims that his broken keyboard beats out Apple anyday. Regardless, this laptop has been one of my best investments and I am still amazed at how many functions this machine is capable of. Even though I discover new tricks and programs each day, one of my favorites continues to be iPhoto and its ability to edit pictures. Specifically, the 'quick fix' button where you can enhance the colors in a photograph, make the picture black and white, or change the complete feeling of an image by a simple click of the button.

I have received numerous e-mails and phone calls from family and friends asking why I have not posted lately. I'll be the first to admit that it has been awhile since I last wrote and that, quite frankly, I've had no desire to do so. These past few months have been filled with incredibly long work days and naughty little children. Most nights, I go to bed completely exhausted only to wake up early the next morning to do it all over again. Up until last week, I was in the process of studying for my Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) which left any minimal amounts of free time during the day filled with studies. Yet upon serious reflection, I've decided to postpone this test until next year, when I have more time to study and more access to study materials.

Many days I think to myself how nice it would be to have that quick fix, with just a click of a button, your day could be filled with more brilliance and richness.

So what is my quick fix? Leaving this house and this aupair job? A trip to Barcelona with my two girlfriends during Madrid's puente or holiday weekend? My travels to London at the end of December? A much needed dose of family and friends on my return trip to the US? Whatever it is, I hope to have more time come January to dedicate to this blog project and to enjoying my time in this beautiful city.
